My goal for 2015 - finish competitively placed in the Transcontinental.
A relatively new race - it's inaugural edition was in 2013. As the image above eludes to - I'm racing in the third edition. While you can find information on the event the website I thought I'd briefly explain what is - both literally and what it is to me.
Literally
A race across Europe from Flanders, Belgium to Istanbul, Turkey. Each rider is free to pick their own route as long as it passes in sequence through the 4 checkpoints. These are Mont Ventoux in Southern France, the Strada dell’Assietta in Italy, Vukovar in Croatia and Mount Lovcen in Montenegro. The clock doesn't stop for eating or sleeping so the aim is to reduce the time spent off the bike to the bare minimum needed. The route is over 4000kms long no matter which way you go. It will be brutal.
What is to me?
My biggest challenge.
Ever.
Getting stuck in and being able to say I've done it. I think I can do it. That isn't enough. I have to actually do it.
It's also an excuse for a new bike and to have a great time and test myself beyond anything I've done before. Beyond anything anyone I know has done before on a bike. I've never visited Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania or Macedonia so it's a great opportunity to discover new places in a different way.
Bring it on.
